Detox
Program
Discontinuing the use of alcohol, prescription medications and certain
drugs without medical assessment and evaluation can lead to potentially life
threatening complications. Therefore, before any client begins their holistic treatment program, we determine whether or not a detox is necessary. If we believe it is,
we will develop a plan of action which is customized to every clients own unique
needs.
Easing the Withdrawal
Symptoms
We make every effort to lessen the withdrawal symptoms while keeping
clients focused and energized toward their recovery. Not all clients will
receive prescribed medications during a detox; sometimes our holistic
therapies are enough. However, there are times which a client should be provided
with medications in order to get them through his or her detox. It’s important
to note that any medication prescribed during a detox will ease cravings and
symptoms, but will not stop them completely. This is why it is crucial to begin
the holistic therapies as soon as possible because it is during this time, long
term recovery will begin.
Detox from Alcohol
When coming off of alcohol, mild withdrawal symptoms include anxiety, nausea, trembling, sweating,
insomnia and cravings. Serious withdrawal symptoms include hallucinations,
seizures, convulsions, delirium tremens and heart failure.
A detox from alcohol generally lasts between 3 and 7 days, depending on
the individual and their extent of alcohol abuse. We may recommend certain
medications which helps to reduce the risk of convulsions and ease the overall
withdrawal process. The dose will be lowered over a number of days and at a comfortable
rate.
Drugs and Prescription
Medications
Withdrawal symptoms will depend on the drug which was being abused;
however, general symptoms may include restlessness, muscle pain, cramps,
insomnia, anger, anxiety, depression, nausea and an increase in heart rate.
Like alcohol, a drug detox will depend on the type and amount of drugs being abused. Generally, this detox can last between 1 and 6 weeks. Benzodiazepines, a commonly abused prescription medication, often take several weeks to be cleared out of a person’s system. In the case of a detox from heroin, methadone or opiate painkillers, we may recommend specific medications which relieve individuals of their withdrawal symptoms. This medication will be reduced over time at a safe and comfortable rate.

Care During the Detox
Process
A detox is a crucial time and one that must be handled with the utmost
care and attention. The scale of your dependency and length of time which you
have been using will determine the length of your detox, as well as, any assistance
you will need during the process. Your safety is our priority; therefore, you
will be closely monitored by qualified staff and medical personnel.
Vitamins, Supplements and
Nutrition during a Detox
The harmful substances which have taken a toll on an individual’s body
must be replaced with healthy nutrients; therefore, our team will develop a nutritional
plan which includes a plethora of vitamins and supplements. These will aid
in sleeping, decrease cravings, improve mood and begin to repair cell and
disuse damage. Once the detox is complete, we will lead you, or your loved one,
into our holistic treatment program where you will continue on your path to a
healthy, happy and sober life.
